Rainy weather is no reason to stay indoors with your baby. With the right gear and a bit of preparation, a walk in wet conditions can be a pleasant experience for both of you.
Why Going Outside Is Good Even in Rain
Fresh air strengthens your baby's immune system and often has a calming effect, even when it's drizzling or raining outside. What matters most is that your child is well protected and feels comfortable.
The Right Clothing in Rainy Weather
In rain, babies should absolutely be dressed in water-repellent clothing. An overall with a waterproof outer layer reliably protects against moisture. Underneath, the tried-and-true layering principle works best: a breathable bodysuit, possibly a sweater, and the rain suit on top. For babies who are already standing or walking, rubber boots with warm socks are a good idea. A hat under the hood adds extra protection for the sensitive head area.
Stroller & Carrier: How to Stay Weatherproof
In the stroller, a well-fitting rain cover is a must. Make sure it's well ventilated so moisture and heat don't build up. In the carrier, your baby benefits from your body heat. Use a rain cape or a special carrier jacket with rain protection.
After the Walk
After the outing, wet clothing should be changed immediately. Also check whether skin areas like the neck or back have gotten damp. A warm bath or cuddling up in a towel rounds out the rain adventure nicely.
Even in rainy weather, skincare is important. A rich wind-and-weather cream can give sensitive skin areas extra protection.
